Hello Friends!

Megan here to tell you about an event I’m SUPER excited about happening next Friday (February 1)! Join us for an enlightening evening learning about the transformational power of a plant-based diet and enjoying some delicious food from Fred & Ricky’s!

You may be wondering why your favorite pottery studio is hosting an event about being plant-based.

As you may know, I have been vegan for 7 years now and absolutely love it. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health! I always liked vegetables and salads, and of course cheese. But I was never a big meat eater. As the oldest child I would help cook dinners a lot and anytime I had to make something with ground beef, I would pick the meat out of the dish. In 2012 I was living in the my own apartment and cooking a lot of convenience meals. I always felt tired and suffered from frequent migraines. One night, I was out with my Aunt eating my favorite meal at the time, a reuben sandwich and she told me about a movie she heard about called “Forks Over Knives”.  I went home and watched it and it literally changed my life. No joking. The movie resonated with me so much!

I had never thought about food being medicine and how what we ate could impact our health in such a profound way.

The next day I decided to start a plant-based diet and got rid of all the junk in my cabinets. I was going to eat whole foods and limit my consumption of food with lots of ingredients that I had no idea what they were. I told my best friend, Ashley, about my plan and she was working in clinical trials for oncology at the time and many of her coworkers were vegan, so she decided to try it too! This was probably the most beneficial thing – to embark on this new journey with a friend! Having each others support that first year was instrumental.

My family thought I was nuts. Sometimes they still do lol. But me going vegan caused us to start having conversations about what is in our food and what good food choices are.  I was having food that I had never had before and enjoying cooking! It still makes me feel like a magician when I create a queso out of cashews! So I wanted to host an event and give all our amazing customers more information about being plant-based! And of course enjoy some delicious food – queso, mac n cheeze, cookies!

We are so excited to welcome Dr. James Loomis and Caryn Dugan to Imagination Pottery!

Dr. Loomis is the former team physician of the St. Louis Rams and Cardinals. He is currently Medical Director at the Barnard Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Learn more about Dr. Loomis here.  Caryn Dugan is STLVegGirl, a plant-based personality, nutrition and culinary educator with a simple mission, “A Plant on Every Plate™”. Learn more about her here. This event is for everyone – whether you are a plant-based beginner or pro! We will not be painting pottery at this event, so we can give our full attention to our special guests! The cost is $18 (plus tax) per attendee and registration is required. You can register here.
